Haller' Parkure Trail started as a cement factory in 1954. Formerly Bamburi Nature Trail, it has been named Haller's Park in honor of the naturalist who reclaimed it. Rene Haler, a German naturalist painstakingly restored the quarry into today's luxuriant garden featuring crocodile/fish farm and is worth a visit.
It is more than just a green space, they are reservoirs of endangered species in a region where biodiversity is shrinking quickly.
The mammal species seen are hippos, giraffes, zebras, waterbugs, elands and Oryx. The bird species range from grey heron, black heron, ducks to African fish eagle and malachite kingfisher.
A luxuriant tropical garden fit for relaxation and adventure, it also offers tortoise rides, horse riding, visit to the snake park, crocodile park, hippos, antelopes, monkeys, buffaloes, etc. in their natural surroundings. It also undertakes reforestation projects.
