The San Diego Zoo

Home to 4,000 rare and endangered birds, mammals and reptiles and 6,500 varieties of exotic plants.

Nights come alive at the San Diego Zoo's Nighttime Zoo, the annual summertime event that brings families and friends together for animal- themed fun. With entertainment starting at 4 p.m., the San Diego Zoo adventure can begin early with animal visits and end late (9 p.m.) with special shows and music, as well as some close- up animal encounters.

San Diego Zoo also exhibits Hippo Beach habitat, Gorilla Tropics, Tiger River, Sun Bear Forest, Children's Zoo, Giant Panda Research Station and Polar Bear Plunge, Monkey Trails and Forest Tales, Absolutely Apes, Ituri Forest, Scripps Aviary, Children's Zoo, Rain Forest Aviary, Flamingo Lagoon, Reptile Mesa, Wings of Australasia etc. It organizes guided bus tours, Skyfari Aerial Tram, Balboa Park Miniature Railroad, ENTCO Wild Earth Safari Ride and also special classes for children and adults.

Timings: Open daily, including all holidays - Nighttime Zoo (now thru September 4): 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (grounds close at 9 p.m.) Fall hours (September 5 - October 1):9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (grounds close at 6 p.m.) Winter hours (October 2 - March 23): 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. grounds close at 5 p.m.)
