History of the Mombasa Airport

Mombasa Airport is also known as the Moi International Airport located in the beautiful city of Mombasa run by the Kenya Airports Authority. This airport can be located in the Kenyan Coast.
The airport is originally named Port Reitz Airport, which was built in the Second World War to be used by the local military. In the early 70s, the tourism of the Department of Kenya decided to expand the airport to accommodate larger fleets and as well as to accommodate the growth in the number of passengers visiting Mombasa. In 1979, this project was completed making it serve as an international airport. From that time on, the airport has continued to grow and cater to accommodate a larges number of passengers each year.

Renovation of the Mombasa Moi Airport

The renovation on the Mombasa Moi Airport has started in the last quarter of 2006. The repair was done in preparation of the IAAF World Class Country Championships. The renovation was expected to take three months which will include repairs, painting and a facelift of the old terminal which was upgraded to make way for the international departures.

With the improvements, it is expected to improve the process for checking in and checking out in the airport. The upgrade is expected to accommodate 400 vehicles in the airport car park. The improvement in the airport would be a great help in anticipating the high tourist season. Mostly tourist bound for Europe arrive via their flights in Mombasa before they board their Precision Air flight, which operates a single flight daily in Mombasa.
